(Can't find my camera's battery charger, so...this was taken with my Droid's Vignette app.)

I am lucky, lately, finding hand painted treasures.  This happens to be a tiny one - 4" square at the most - the back is signed by a George Glenn and dated 1945.  "Maple Sugar Time, Quebec."  If I could jump into the canvas, I would.  Art transporter!  Let's see if we can't create one of those.

I never thought my return to Solid Cherry would be because of a Cinderella-esque painting, but here you go:

She's a really great painting albeit bizarre subject for my tastes.  She's 12" x 16", oil on canvas, unsigned.  I bought her yesterday at a new-to-me thrift store (sadly, no Pyrex).  Still deciding where to put her...

I haven't been out much to the thrifts lately...but there's never any Pyrex.  EVER!  The supply has officially dried up, or some other sneaky thrifter is scoring it all and blogging about it in a parallel universe!  Grrr!  While my collection is bursting at the seams, I wouldn't mind rescuing some pieces from the hands of amateurs.

We moved into our new home but it is still "coming together" -- with our little George running around these days we don't get much done except diapers!  Erm, there *might* be some boxes left that are still sealed with packing tape.

George turned 1 on June 12, and he's awesome:

Here's to happy thrifting, and hopefully I'll be around here more! xoxo

p.s. Happy Independence Day, of course!!

I’ve had this lovely lady for awhile now; she’s no relation!  She’s from a “boutique” thrift shop.  When the family gathers from out of town and a little too much champagne has been consumed, we try to guess her real name (there’s no clue as to who she really is).  Ethel?  Genevieve?  Betsy? Go ahead…you can play too!

I saw this little painting propped up in a thrift store and thought I might want to hang it up in my future "reading room."  Even though I doubt it was painted with Oregon in mind, those colors exactly are an Oregon beach.  It was painted at least a few decades ago -- the back of the canvas indicates as such, but unfortunately it's not signed so I can't offer a little thank-you to the artist.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!  ♥

I have a soft spot for paint-by-numbers. And these ones were done nicely and they're old. Which is a plus.

Our newest resident painting is all things grandfatherly (and any art experts feel like sharing who/what this is?). The back is marked with some interesting things. First, it is signed Shawson. And then:

The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Permit to Copy Issued
8 N 45

And then:

SEP 24 1946
Copy
From the Original in the
Metropolitan Museum
of Art

It's our own copied little masterpiece.

I hope you enjoyed Pyrex week. Now on to more of the random. This painting was impossible to leave behind. Anyway, it's dated 1966. Surfs up!

I happen to love paint-by-numbers and still lifes. I found this one last week - isn't it great? The colors are wonderful and I love that I can vaguely see the number guides poking through the paint.

The back of this 5x7 oil painting is just as charming as the front - it still has the original price artist Doryce paid for the canvas back in the day: 16¢. And if that weren't enough, it was a gift from my mom, who also left the Goodwill tag on the back of the canvas.

I say this cost $0, but in truth, the Baby Jade plant cost around $3 and the soil was a few bucks too. But the real beauty - the sink - was salvaged from a home in West Palm Beach. Steve was going to use it in his darkroom, but then he ended up building his own sink (by the by, I totally live with + love a genius). So we turned this into wall art/planter. Umm, schwing.

update

And...for the bigger picture:

Remember these? Well, they look pretty awesome hanging in a pair of windows we salvaged for free earlier this year from a home in distress. It's nice to have that big wall in our living room finally filled up with something (pretty, to boot).

When Steve and I moved into our current residence, we had a lot of work ahead of us - the house was filthy and dated. Because of the swell deal we got in rent, the landlord gave us the go-ahead to do whatever we wanted with the place. As you can imagine, we have done a lot and our efforts have harvested some strange treasures. Meet the following picture - one of many vintage plastic ornaments we've found around the home:

We found three of these plastic ornaments, or wall hangings, rather, and I thought they might look neat spray painted. So, months later, I've finally come around to painting them shiny bright white. They aren't hanging just yet, but I'm eager to share.

All three of them:

I love paint-by-numbers. This one was rescued from a Goodwill recently - the whole painting is of flowers in a vase, but it's not hanging exactly where I want it yet, so I'm holding off its unveiling until I have it in just the right place.

(On the reverse, it's dated 1972, to a Catherine & Arnold.)
